Disposition: While on the job, Sydelle is pure efficiency. She speaks hardly to anyone, especially those she is fighting, save for her dragon Stoick. She is very close to Stoick, as he is her constant companion. She has a large family, but does not see them very often. She feels awkward around them, mostly because her mother and sisters are very much into housekeeping and finding husbands, whereas Sydelle prefers her job. Her father, however, is particularly fond of her, due to her position. To people she meets she seems somewhat cold and brisk. It may take her a while to befriend some, but when she calls you friend it is for life.
History: Sydelle was the second oldest of 4 daughters born to Emeline and Rowan in a tiny town not too far away from the border of the Kingdom of Night. While both of her parents are dragotharians, the family relies on one or two of it's members to provide by being dragon riders. Her parents had hoped for a son to take up the role, but they had none. Sydelle from very early on proved to be different from her sisters. She was never good at sewing or housekeeping. She was considered a nuisance when chores needed to be done. Rowan, however, recognized her talents from an early age. While Sydelle's mother and sisters were busy cleaning or tending something, Sydelle and her father were out in the fields, training. She trained on the variety of weapons her father had available, choosing the double blades as her favorite.
Shortly after Sydelle's 16th birthday, Rowan was severly injured by a vampire while on patrol. While he survived the encounter, he lost is left leg. His dragon, Serith, now spends much of his time near the family home, watching over his rider. Rowan and Serith became the unofficial protectors of the tiny village in which the family lived, earning some goods, but not enough for the family to live on. Sydelle naturally stepped up to fill her father's place.
Her father, riding Serith, took her to the hatching grounds. Sydelle watched the hatching, her eyes riveted onto one egg in particular. It was blue with silver veins running through it. She watched in awe as the egg began to crack and a tiny dragon came out. Almost immediately, their eyes met. They stood their for several moments, until the dragon began walking towards her. Slowly at first, but speeding up until he was practically sprinting toward her. It took flight on shaky wings, still coming at her. She managed to catch him...falling to her knees in the process. Almost immediately, a voice appeared in her head. I am Stoick. She smiled. I am Sydelle. She replied. From that day on, they were thick as thieves. After 4 years had passed, when Stoick was full grown, Sydelle said goodbye to her family and left.
The first few patrols were simple and not very exciting. After a while, the attacks increased. Or rather she began patrolling the areas where most of the attempted invasions happened. Unfortunately, this area was fairly far from where her family lived. However, there was a village nearby that was constantly plagued by the citizens of the Kingdom of Night. They were more than happy to offer her food and supplies in return for protection. She made her home in the cliffs along with others of her trade, although she was slow to befriend any of them. She travelled back once every two months to drop off supplies for her family. When her older sister, Jael, was married, her mother made her a promise. She would only have to keep working for the family until each of her 3 sisters were married. After that, Emeline and Rowan would leave on the income he earned in town. She dreams of the day when she has no ties to anywhere, but can live the nomadic life. Fighting where the action is the thickest.
Additional information: Stoick is a blue dragon with all the dragon assets (i.e. long sharp teeth, claws, etc.) However he looks more regal than scary most times. Unless he wishes you to be scared. He is Sydelle's company and closest confidant. Due to the psyhic bond, they speak mind-to-mind and have no secrets from each other.
300 word RP sample for this character: The village was quaint. As quaint as it had ever been. The houses were sturdy, but with some embellishments. Her family's house was by far the most embellished, sitting on a graddy hill a ways off. It looked almost lordlike, bigger than any of the other hosues in town. Mother would be so proud to hear that. Sydelle thought with a smile. Emeline prided herself on her housekeeping abilities.
As your father would be proud to hear of the things you did. Stoick reminded her. They were hovering above the town. Her father's celebrity among town had long since banished the fear of dragons from the people's minds. They didn't stare up and point as they did anymore. Now they would smile and wave, occasionally using their loudest voices to convey greetings.
He would be prouder if he could do them beside me. She replied. While Rowan had contented himself to being the town's resident dragon rider, she knew he wanted to be out on patrol again. The Kingdom of Night was not so far away from the village. But there were those, like her, who were much more mobile. Who could fight the vampires and worgens up close. There was no need to wait for the creatures to approach civilizations.
Then be extra descriptive when you tell him, so he can imagine it for himself. Stoick saw things in black and white most times. There was a simple solution to everything in his mind.
I don't think that would help much. She replied doubtfully. While in battle, Sydelle saw the world as Stoick did. Black and white, right and wrong, kill or be killed. However, in other areas of her life she found herself plagued with doubts. Everything seemed a gray area to her. But that was why she relied on Stoick so much. They evened each other out. She could not imagine a day without him.
Perhaps I am right. Stoick said in his usual dry manner. Or perhaps you are wrong. She smiled ruefully, shaking her head at him. There is only one way to tell. Sydelle looked back at the houses. This was where her family lived. Where she had grown up. The place she continually returned to. So why didn't it feel like home?
Because a true rider is only at home on the battlefield. Stoick answered, even though she had not consciously asked him the question. You are not meant for a quite life on the home front. She nodded, even though the dragon couldn't see her.
"Alright." She said aloud. "Let's go let mother try to put me in a dress again." Stoick dipped his head in the dragon's version of a nod, and took off. With the wind blowing through her unkempt hair and the steady pulse of Stoick's wings in her ears, her disease disappeared. This was where she belonged. This was home.
