Post by Kyotaja Masurao Mumei on Jan 7, 2011 19:13:25 GMT
Character Name: Kyotaja (High Priest) Masurao Mumei
Race: Knothazian (Half-Elf)
Age: 43
Physical Description: Masurao stands at 5' 6", a below average height for a Knothazian. Masurao has tan skin, black, short hair and brown, almond-shaped eyes. Oddly, Masurao's ears are big and long but only nearly-pointed, while other Knothazians' have pointed and somewhat shorter ears. If you were not looking for the ears in the first place you'd not realize that Masurao was part Elf. Masurao has an aquiline nose. Masurao doesn't look it at first glance but underneath his shirt you can clearly see his muscular figure.
Personal Style: Masurao usually wears tight-fitting clothes, anything loose would likely to be snagged or caught on something during Masurao's daily exercises or sparring sessions. Masurao considers loose-fitting clothes to be somewhat fancy and saves wearing such things for events and ceremonies. Masurao does not mind wearing colorful clothing but saves it for events and usually wears black or white.
Playby: Jet Li
Disposition: Masurao is one to let the other be the talker and he the listener, sometimes only interjecting with a philosophical note or a word of wisdom. When one approaches Masurao with anything less than a peaceful demeanor then it is not strange for Masurao to suddenly jump to his feet and begin a fight with the other person, usually they lose and after they have been beaten they calm down. When Masurao is approached by a proud, confident, or cocky person he will usually challenge them to a 30 second brawl, whoever gets in the most hits win, and the other usually loses which causes them to lose some of that excess pride. When approached by someone who is greedy for knowledge and power who desires to be taught by Masurao, he refuses to teach them or starts ridiculously small.
Masurao holds an oddly positive opinion towards the Kingdom of Night and the Offworlders. He believes that although as unnatural as both seem they are part of the natural cycle of the universe and should be respected and perhaps embraced into society when they are ready. Masurao will only give this opinion when asked.
History:
When Masurao was born...
Masurao was the son of a Knothazian and a Human, which resulted in a diminishing of his Elven blood, giving him almost normal ears. Masurao's father was a Human whose name was Nathaniel. Masurao's mother was a Knothazian whose name was Isolde. It was precisely forty-three years ago on a cold winter night that Masurao was born. At this time Masurao was named Charl, the name given to him by his parents, later he would forfeit the name and give himself a new name.
When Masurao was a child...
Masurao joined what was known as the Bird School, run by his mother Isolde, who taught many bird-related forms of Martial Arts. The school was large and contained hundreds of cages, each filled with a different species of bird. Masurao spent most of his time on the Hawk Style, the preferred form of his Mother, but he did spend some time studying the other forms. When Masurao was not studying he was tending to the school's garden or preparing tea and meals for the other students.
When Masurao was a teenager...
Masurao began to realize some of the mysteries of the world and life itself and so desired to travel the land and learn the answers from the different races of the world. Masurao went to every Kingdom he could and visited with each race. Masurao stayed only on the Knothazien Mountain's long enough to perfect his Hawk Style and to gather the necessary equipment. After that he gave his farewells to his family and friends and descended the Mountain. In his travels, Masurao preferred to not have the name Charl mentioned. He always told the people he met on his journey that he had no name.
When Masurao visited the Sky Kingdom...
It was quite a sight; a young man staring upwards to a place where he could possibly never reach. Masurao remembered a feeling that he hadn't felt since he was a child, the feeling you got when you stared at a shelf you couldn't reach. The boy still however wished to talk to one of the Skylarians and so sat and waited for one to pass. It was perhaps hours or even days until a Skylarian took interest and flew down to talk to Masurao, no one except Masurao knows the Skylarian or what they talked about.
When Masurao visited the Kingdom of Night...
Masurao observed very cautiously from a distance. It was mid-day when Masurao watched a Vampire slowly approach his hiding spot, he had not yet noticed him. When the Vampire drew close, Masurao jumped out from behind his hiding spot and surprised the Vampire. Nothing much is known about the encounter or wether they fought or talked, only that Masurao left uninfected that day. This was not the only encounter with one of the Night Kingdom's inhabitants, Masurao also approached a Worgen at a unknown time and place, their meeting is also unrecorded and Masurao refuses to give details. Masurao also reported meeting one of the Dragotharians, whose encounter is not known but it is reported that the Dragotharian directed Masurao towards the Kingdom of Day.
When Masurao visited the Kingdom of Day...
He had followed the Dragotharian's advice and arrived at the Jin's current camp. Although outsiders were not usually accepted, the Jins mistook Masurao for one of their own having somewhat darker skin due to his Jin blood. Masurao was brought in as a boy of the Kingdom who had lost his way during one of the camp moves, Masurao quickly denied this and told the Jins the truth. The Jins however proved to still be interested in Masurao and it is said that he met with one of the Jins, it Jin in-question is unknown and it is unknown wether the two talked, fought, or perhaps had a horse race.
When Masurao visited the Kingdom of Keleirbag...
Masurao regarded it as the most beautiful place he had visited so far. It was night when he entered the forest, wandering towards the center to it, to the elves and hopefully a sprite or faerie along the way; Masurao wanted to meet all the race after all, regardless of what he'd heard. During his journey through the forest, Masurao met a Sprite who had mistook him for an Elf, it's not known what was said or done at this encounter. It took a few days for Masurao to reach the Elven Kingdom in the forest, there he met an Elf and later a Faerie, it is unknown what happened during these meetings or if it was the Faerie who brought Masurao to the Majestic Sea.
When Masurao visited the Majestic Sea...
Masurao did not waste any time in finding the Merpeople and the Mänihaventians, he found them both by the shore talking to each other. At first Masurao hid and watched then when the two parted, Masurao tracked each down and met with them. Like all the other meetings in this story, the details of the meeting are unknown. It's said that Masurao hired the Mänihaventians to take him to the Western Kingdom and finally Home to the Knothazian mountains.
When Masurao visited the Western Kingdom...
Masurao decided that he would not enter the Kingdom as lightly as he did then. When Masurao stepped off the boat and went in-land, across farms and fields, he was immediately intercepted by Wester Bandits. Masurao could not fight the bandits, they had guns and were on top of horses, Masurao had never been trained to fight opponents like that. It's unknown if Masurao was saved by a wandering Wester or if he freed himself. After traveling deeper into the land, entering one of the cities and spending a day or so there, Masurao left for the shore. The Mänihaventians took him aboard and they sailed towards the Knothazian mountains.
When Masurao returned home...
Masurao was warmly greeted by his mother and father, Masurao had been gone for a long time. The trio returned to the Bird School and a three day event was organized where anyone could come by and hear Masurao's story and ask questions. This was the only time that Masurao explained everything in detail, after this event he would respond ambiguously regarding his travels. Masurao returned to training in the Bird School and learned a few more of the bird styles before leaving and enrolling in other schools.
When Masurao became an Adult...
Masurao started to become bored with his Martial Arts training, lacking an ultimate purpose in life. Masurao wanted to start his own school and become a guide for other people in life but decided that his mind was too scattered and lacked focus, so he decided against it. Masurao went to the teachers of the various schools and asked them about his purpose in life, but he could never receive a satisfying answer. Masurao turned his eyes towards the Monastery.
When Masurao entered the Monastery...
Masurao was surprised, having never set foot inside the Monastery. He was greeted by one of the members and Masurao expressed his desire to speak to the Kyotaja, the High Preist. Masurao was given a small bed and fed, in the morning he was allowed to meet with the Kyotaja, the details of the meeting are not known but the outcome was Masurao joining the Monastery. Immediately his hair was cut and he was given temple clothes, he spent every morning on chores and every evening studying, it was not hard to get used to having spent time at multiple Martial Art schools. What was different here was the real studying, some philosophical but mostly informative, which impacted Masurao greatly. During his time serving in the Monastery, Masurao was given a new name, Ranger, for he had of course traveled through each Kingdom. Many people mistook this name as Renja or Reinja, Masurao actually preferred to be known by these alternate pronunciations and spellings.
When Masurao was a member of the Monastery...
Masurao started to think of ways to improve the lives of others around him. Masurao became interested in medicinal work and often went down into town to consult and work under pharmacists and doctors, Masurao tried his best to not have this interest not impact his training at the Monastery. When Masurao became confident he started experimenting with plants in the Monastery's garden and created his own salves, brews, and powders. Masurao stopped his experiments after ingesting one of his experimental medicines and becoming sick, which proved to be nearly fatal. This event did not deter him from selling, trading, or giving away his tested and proved medicines for food, supplies and clothing for the other members of the Monastery. Masurao soon regretted this decision as soon the Monastery was mobbed by people wanting his free medicine. Soon the plants were wilting from being repeatedly picked and Masurao's tools became cracked and broken, along with his fingers after an accident. Masurao gave up his trade in medicine, but retained the knowledge.
One day, out of nowhere, Masurao began to practice his old Martial Art routines and moves. It had been a very long time since he had last went through the techniques and did some real exercise. Masurao spent an hour pondering this and eventually came to the conclusion that his routine was getting stale. Masurao decided to go into town and trade for tea leaves, despite all of the medicine troubles he had before, he was still quite interested in plants. When Masurao got the tea leaves he went around and asked anyone he could find who would be knowledgeable of the making of tea about how they made it and what made certain tea leaves special. Tea was nothing new for Masurao, he had made a lot of it as a child in the dojo, but he had never gotten this in-depth about tea. After that day, Masurao would deliver cups to tea in the morning to everyone in the Monastery, and for guests whenever they arrived. Masurao's tea wasn't the greatest and it certainly wasn't something to look forward to, but it was still a nice thing to have everyday. Even with Masurao's new interest in tea, he still continued to practice his old Martial Art exercises.
It didn't take long for Masurao to be approached by an interested monk who watched Masurao perform one his routines. He asked questions, Masurao gave answers. Soon the two were training partners and sparred every few days. The Kyotaja did not mind this for he said, "Art is really the expression of self. I see not reason why Martial Arts should be different." After the Kyotaja gave the O.K. Masurao was approached by other members of the Monastery and they all started to training together. One day, Masurao sat down and watched all the others train and he was astounded at how they each had all their own different techniques (some of which were invented on the spot). It was during this time that Masurao came up with the idea of the "Total Style." The Total Style was a Martial Art form that Masurao believed that everyone knew, its techniques were different for each person, each technique was their own expression. The Total Style had no set moves or routines but was ever changing and yet never changing. "To change with change is the changeless state" thought Masurao. "How could such a style be mastered. Art calls for complete mastery of techniques, developed by reflection within the soul." thought Masurao. Masurao has never quite been able to solve the mysteries of the Total Style but now believes that each technique comes from one's knowledge of other techniques, resulting in the practitioners total use of everything they know, hence the name.
It soon came to pass that the entire monastery was training under Masurao and that outsiders would try and enter the temple to learn from him. The members of the monastery and guests would often go to Masurao to learn and ask questions rather than go to the Kyotaja himself, both the Kyotaja and Masurao found this quite amusing. The Kyotaja had no doubts that Masurao would be the perfect successor for the position of Kyotaja and so the Kyotaja retired to travel the land, passing the title over to Masurao.

Why are there so many unknown people in your history?
Those people are designed so if the site gets a few members and they aren't sure where to start then I could suggest a roleplay that takes place in the past, one of the above events.
Your RP sample seems highly unlikely!
Yeah I know, but I did it for fun! No one said the RP sample had to be canon.

The room was big and wide and set deep within the monastery, its purpose was to be used as an audience chamber. The room was nearly bare of furniture and had no windows, the room was only lit by a few burning candles set on tall stands. The only place to sit in the room was on a pillow, there were two long rows of purple pillows , each with twenty pillows.
Masurao sat in the middle of one the rows, facing a large wooden double door, the only way in or out of the room. Beside him was the torn remains of a blood-stained shirt. Masurao panted heavily, blood dripped down from a wound on his left arm and from a large scratch on his chest. It was the day of a total eclipse, Areythia's moon and two suns were perfectly aligned, blocking out the sun. The Kingdom of Night took advantage of this chance and set out, the Knothazian mountains were their third target, they had already quickly overrun the Dragotharians and the Westers. They had appeared on the mountains just minutes after Masurao heard the news. Masurao knew this was going to happen, the event was foretold in the scrolls.
It had been perfectly still and quiet, due to the room's location. The silence was suddenly broken by the sound of loud footsteps in front of the door; Masurao stood, picked up his shirt and gathered a few pillows, picking them by their corners. Masurao tied the shirt around one of the pillows; the door burst open, a wolf-form worgen stood in the doorway. The Worgen walked into the room, he had been chasing Masurao for a while. Masurao already had a plan to deal with him.
Masurao expertly threw the pillows in different arcs and in rapid succession at the Worgen's head before running at him at full speed. The technique accomplished three things: Visual diversion as the pillows flew towards him they would draw his eyes, scent diversion as the pillow with the shirt tied to it would draw his nose, physical diversion as instinct would take over as the Worgen would undoubtedly either swat at the pillows or attempt to block or dodge them and leave him open to strike. This was all part of the Ghost Style.
The Worgen stepped back as his eyes darted from pillow to pillow, not noticing Masurao's sudden charge. The Worgen reacted fast, swatting away a few of the pillows, the others hit him. Suddenly, the Worgen noticed a scent, turned, and grabbed the source, it was the pillow with the shirt. The Worgen stood confused as Masurao quickly but silently ran up, jumped, and delivered a flying kick to his side. The attack did not knock the Worgen down but it pushed him back and certainly stunned him, he was obviously confused on what was going on. Masurao took advantage of this second opening and delivered a powerful palm to the center of the Worgen's chest. The Worgen clutched his chest as he back-pedaled out the door and into a hallway. Masurao charged once more, eyeing the fingers on the Worgen's hand, which were covering his chest. Masurao jumped and delivered a chain of flying kicks, striking the Worgen many times on his hands before landing. The Worgen roared for each strike and when the attack had ended, he decided that he had enough. The Worgen ran away with ten broken finger, two broken wrists, and two fractured hands.
