Character Name: William the Blacksmith

Age: 24
Physical Description: Mop of dirty blonde wavy hair cropped to collar length due to his work. He has dark brown eyes which give off an aura of being calm and in control. His lips are often pursed tight in a straight line as he works or thinks but his smile is broad and shows his straight white teeth. He still has a smattering of freckles over his nose which embarrasses him but which a few find cute.
Personal Style: Will wears linen shirts, buttoned up all except the top two buttons, with the sleeves rolled up and tucked into his thick moleskin pants. Due to his work most of his clothes are stained with smears of black or have burn holes in them. He does not have formal clothes as he is too poor to afford them. When it is very hot other can find him working over his forge, bare chested and glistening with sweat with a silver coin hanging on a leather thong around his neck.
Playby: Heath Ledger
Disposition: Will is modest and a little shy because of his poor upbringing. His father was a blacksmith and as the only son he inherited the business when his father passed away from the consumption. He is quick to laugh around people he knows and is comfortable with but can easily shrink into the shadows around strangers. He doesn't spend much time around people because he is self conscience about his poverty. Shy and unassuming, Will is fiercely protective about his family and few friends and would give his life for any of them should they need.
History: Youngest born of six children, and with 5 older sisters, he always felt like he was unimportant and didn't belong. His sisters were loud and always laughing and he found it easier to hide in the corners rather than be noticed and made fun of.
Being poverty striken he did not attend the community school that other boys attended, but rather worked in the stables for the royal family. Stable lads had a long hard day but he earnt a few coins and handed them all to his father who was driving his family into deeper debt in an attempt to raise enough of a dowry to marry his oldest daughter. Without schooling, Will did not learn to read or write and did not understand numbers but he learnt alot about horses from the old stable master, Alek. He learnt to ride and at 12 broke in his first horse.
It was in the stables when he was 14, that Will first met the then Prince. He couldn't take his eyes from the young man, as he rode into the stable, dismounting quickly and throwing him the reins. Shyly Will grabbed the reins of the tall dark stallion and took the horse straight to his stable and untacked him. While rubbing him down, singing to him softly, the prince came up to the stable door, he stopped and listened for a moment at the soft sweet voice of the lad and noticed the way the stallion was standing calmly rather than prancing about. When the prince praised his good work, Will's head snapped around in suprise, smiling shyly he spoke quietly "Thank ye". Before turning away to continue his day, the prince threw a silver coin at the boy.
Will idolized the prince from then on, to the point that it became an almost obsession and he was finding any excuse to be around where the prince might be. Alek noticed his young charges new obsession and spoke to his father. The next day Will was excused from his position in the stables and started apprenticing with his father. Depressed and unhappy he threw himself into his work, and became excellent at his craft. When his father died just after his 22nd birthday, he continued with the business, providing for his sisters and mother with the meager amount he earned.
One day he was working in the blazing sun on a new sword, commissioned by a lord. He heard the distinctive clomp of a horse having lost a shoe come to a stop and he called without lifting his head that he would just be a moment. When he turned and saw the prince standing there his jaw fell open, but the princes greeted him with a warm smile of recognition. He reshod the horse carefully and when he straightened he noticed the prince eyeing him carefully. He dropped his head bashfully but the prince reached out and gently lifted the coin resting against his chest. Will felt like he couldn't breathe as he was close to panic but the prince smiled in recognition of the event that had taken place 10 years earlier. Will smiled shyly and the rest as they say, is history.
Additional information: Will is left handed.
300 word RP sample for this character:
Will hammered away, the red hot soft steel moulding into the shape he wanted became firmer as it cooled with each strike. He lifted the blade and turned it over, back and forth ad he appraised the edge he was forming. Unsatisfied he plunged the blade back into the red hot coals, turning to pump the bellows, the puffs of air making the coals flare hotter.
The sweat glistened down his naked chest, the silver coin swung on its leather thong, whacking into his chest as it spun slightly with the movement. His muscles bunched in his arms from the labour, his left shoulder twinged slightly from its use and he made a mental note to get some more liniment and wondering if he could trouble someone for a massage.
He removed the blade, laying it on the hard surface he used and began hammering again. He hummed a tune as he worked, and didn’t hear the footsteps coming up behind him. This time when he lifted the blade he was satisfied with way the edge had folded smoothly and plunged the blade it a bucket of water with a loud hiss causing a cloud of steam.
He stood up, the sweat running down his spine as he felt unexpected hot breath tickling the back of his neck. He had no need to whirl around for he knew by the strong scent of sandlewood who stood behind him. He smiled broadly, lifting a hand to wipe the sweat from his brow but only succeeding in smearing a stripe of black across it.
He turned slowly to look into the blue eyes that were washing over him, taking him from head to toe and back again slowly.
“My Lord” he said softly “What brings you here in this retched heat?”
Already knowing the answer he stepped forward, closing the space between them so that it felt as though electricity sparked between them. His voice caught in his throat slightly before he managed to find it
“I did not expect you until tonight” he said huskily.
